Moving from place to place (or rather base to base) is common for military families. Members of the military and Armed Forces are sent where they need to go, along with their families. But the transition isn’t always easy. That’s why the Five & Thrive initiative was started in 2021. Military Family Supporter Val DiGiorgio explains the program:
In 2021, Sharene Brown decided that she wanted to establish an initiative that would help improve quality of life for military families. Her goal was to specifically put her focus in the way of issues related to readiness, resilience and retention of the force, as applied to military families as complete units. The wife of a 22nd Chief of Staff of the United States Air Force, Brown is inherently aware of the difficulties and hardships faced by the support networks of military members. But although she may be experienced in the process of transition from duty station to duty station, she can’t say that it’s something she’s used to. The truth is, the difficulties never become something that someone can simply get used to. Having grown up in a military family himself, Val DiGiorgio understands this struggle all too well.
Five & Thrive is an initiative dedicated to improving quality of life for military families as they transition from location to location. The program specifically focuses on key areas of childcare, healthcare, education, housing and spouse employment. Providing those in need with a network of dedicated community members is incredibly important to Five & Thrive, which works diligently to support members of the Armed Forces, veterans and their loved ones.
