At Del Norte High School, a student led organization is encouraging girls to study STEM subjects. Longtime STEAM advocate and education philanthropist, Val DiGiorgio discusses the group:
Science Accelerates Girls’ Excellence (SAGE) is a school club turned nonprofit organization started by Minnesota high school student Emily Liu. The program is now led by senior Alicia Ji, who carries Liu’s torch. And the glow of that torch is absolutely amazing, as far as Val DiGiorgio is concerned! This wonderful program is inspiring female students, an often underrepresented group in the pursuit of STEM courses, to remedy that lack of representation. By fostering an environment of encouragement, SAGE is brewing STEM superstars! The program hosts tons of classes and programs, with topics ranging from human anatomy and astronomy to computer science and nutrition science — and so much more!
