The recent Spring STEAM outreach at Clarkson University’s Beacon campus was quite the success. Val DiGiorgio discusses the program, which provided students in 5th and 6th grade with valuable on-site learning opportunities at Denning’s Point State Park:
In May 2022, Clarkson University’s Beacon campus launched a new STEAM program that combines environmental science with science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Over the course of the program, more than 400 local 5th and 6th grade students set out on the 70-acre nature preserve of Denning’s Point State Park to take part in lessons instructed by members of Clarkson’s College of Environmental Sciences.
This recent program is one of many similar STEM and STEAM centric community outreach programs created by Clarkson University staff and students. So far, more than 1,200 local students have participated in the outreach effort, which has included school fairs, class visits, community science programs, field trips, public events and other activities. Val DiGiorgio looks forward to following along as these programs continue into the Spring and Summer 2022 semesters.
