Military Family Benefits You Might Not Know About

February 18, 2022 by Val DiGiorgio

Military service members and their families are entitled to various benefits. With all they do for the American people, Val DiGiorgio believes that they fully deserve each and every one! But did you know that there are some benefits that most military families forget about? Here are a few:

Retirement Move Extension

When retiring, service members are entitled to one final move initiated by the military.  Standard guidelines require that move to be made within one year.  But, did you know that you can request an extension with the local transportation office?  Because you can!  And you can do this up to 5 times once per year, for a max total of 6 years.  This gives you extra time to decide where you’d like to live with your family after retiring.

Free Mental Health Support

Val DiGiorgio has previously covered organizations that offer counseling services to military personnel.  But the military also has their own free non-medical counseling agency.  It’s called Military OneSource and its counseling services are available to both military members and their families to discuss a variety of life matters that may be bothering them.

Free Travel Advisor

Military families are entitled to travel discounts.  But did you know that they can also enjoy the assistance of a travel advisor — free of charge?  This service is brought to military families by SatoTravel, which has helped military members and their families plan and book their vacation trips for more than seven decades!
